3 signs that someone might be looking for a new role
Social media keeps us up-to-date with what’s going on around us: Sarah’s baby ate a lemon, Sam and Jessica got engaged over the weekend, Phil is rocking new sneakers... Social media allows people to tell the world about great things happening in their lives, yet people are very secretive about their work life: most people don’t post online when they’re looking for a job, mostly to not alert their current employer they are looking for work or to keep intact a picturetastic life. In order to offer a helping hand to your friends, here are 3 signs on Social Media that indicate someone might be ready for a new role:
1. They update their LinkedIn profile. Before people apply for jobs, they typically get their online presence up-to-date. If you notice someone in your network has updated their job title or added a nice new profile picture on LinkedIn, there’s a good chance they’re beginning the search for a new role! 2. They’ve been in their current role less than 6 months or more than 3 years. Time can be a great indicator of a person’s readiness to leave a company. Statistically speaking, most people leave either within their probation period or after they’ve been with the company for about 3 years. Before 6 months, people may feel that the role and company was missold to them, and after a couple of years they may begin to look elsewhere if internal mobility is not offered and the opportunity to develop their skills stops. 3. Their lifestyle begins to change. All of a sudden your friends start going out more, travelling more frequently, maybe even a house move to a new area - there is a chance that they’re in for a change in their professional life as well.
When all is said and done, pretty much everyone likes to hear about new job opportunities that might be suitable for them and it feels good to give a friend a helping hand and let them know that you are thinking about them. People switch jobs for a reason, whether it be for a higher salary a more exciting and challenging position or a job that fulfils them more on a personal level. Who wouldn’t be open for that?
