Referment's Guide To Working From Home

As many of us are finding ourselves out of the office and working from home, we thought we’d put together a handy guide on how to be productive when working remotely. 

1. Set up a designated workspace

You don’t need an entire office to effectively work from home, but you also won’t feel productive if you try to work from the sofa. Find a separate space where you can work with minimal distractions – perhaps set up a space at the dining table or at the desk in your bedroom.

2. Continue your morning routine

You won’t feel your most productive in your pyjamas so make sure you continue your usual morning routine, be it showering, eating breakfast, getting some exercise or simply brushing your teeth and getting dressed for the day.

3. Interact with your team where possible

It’s easy to feel isolated when working from home for an extended period so why not jump on a call with your colleagues? This can be just to check-in to see how everyone’s doing or use this time to plan your days and to set out your to do lists. Here at Referment we have individual catch-ups scheduled throughout the day to keep on top of projects and at least one all-hands meeting each day to keep connected.

4. Take breaks

It’s easy to forget to take a break when you’re working from home but make sure to get up, stretch and walk outside for some fresh air when you can. Just make sure you’re setting yourself a time frame and sticking to a schedule.

4. Be realistic

With schools closed for the vast majority of children, parents will be balancing work with childcare and homeschooling. If you’re a line-manager in this situation, try to be as flexible as possible and for parents, be open and honest with your line managers and try to work out the best and most realistic schedule that works for all parties.
